Before writing this very first blog on my new site, I spent a lot of time struggling with what to put. Who am I? A literary translator? An editor? A writer? An agency? A thinker? A doer? Introducing myself is certainly going to be a mouthful! After some time, I came to a conclusion: I am all those things, but “Who?” isn’t the question here. The question should be “Why?”.
At the age of 23 I decided to move to Paris for a year to teach English. I didn’t know it at the time but this decision changed my life. This sounds dreadfully cheesy, but I swear it’s true. Within a week of being in Paris, I knew I was never going « home ». I have never loved a place so much. Within a few years, I was able to comprehend, speak, and read the language of Molière at the level of an educated native speaker. With the encouragement of friends, colleagues and family, I started to look for opportunities to perform translation work, whilst continuing teaching. I slowly built these incredible opportunities (from translating video games, apps and books to creating pedagogical materials for pilots, to writing copy for hotels and museums) into a source of income that enabled me to dedicate more and more time to the point where I now have a successful business and can do what I love every day of my life.
So, why do I do what I do? I am a Francophile. I love French literature, music, wine, theatre, cinema, museums, traditions, gardens, parks, architecture and history. I can think of nothing better than spending hours, weeks or months rendering a novel into perfect English, reproducing convincing dialogue for a video game or a play, creating tailor-made solutions for people who need fantastic copy… I could go on, but I’m conscious of the word count!
Please go ahead and read through my site. I can help you. It’s as simple as that. I believe I know the difference between good and great writing. And this shows in everything I do. So now you know a little about the woman behind the site and why I do what I do. If you are interested in working with me, head over to the contact area and I’ll be in touch!
